A More SustainableInclusiveVibrant Carnation is Possible

Hi, I’m Jessica.

My City Council candidacy envisions a more sustainable future for Carnation. I will address growth responsibly, rectify developer privileges granted at the expense of residents, and prioritize infrastructure while safeguarding our ecology for climate resiliency.

Supporting farmers, small businesses, and agricultural tourism preserves town history and strengthens economic opportunities. I will champion the Snoqualmie Tribe Ancestral Land Movement and foster an inclusive community that respectfully recreates and honors the land we love. With extensive town involvement, I’m Co-Chairperson of the Planning & Parks Board and Marketing Chair for the 4th of July Committee. Previously, I served as HOA President of Tolt Meadows.

As a young mother, I know decisions made today impact our children’s children 50 years from now. Let’s ensure Carnation thrives as a jewel in King County, increasing the value of our city-owned parks. Join me in creating a sustainable, inclusive, and vibrant Carnation.

What I Stand For

We have an opportunity to stop trying to make Carnation something that it isn’t and instead embrace what makes our town a destination to live, work, play, and stay: the great outdoors. My campaign honors the land, promotes local businesses, and is committed to making more voices heard.

Parks & Open Spaces

While a tiny city of one square mile, Carnation has 38 acres of open space and recreational land within and adjacent to city limits and 500 additional acres in public ownership by King County, Riverview School District, and the State of Washington. We must preserve this space and stop inconsiderate development choices.

Greater Representation

The City Council lacks the perspective of young families who made huge financial sacrifices to put down roots in the Valley. As an LGBT+ person running for office here, I know what it’s like to feel unseen and am committed to an intersectional approach, so decisions reflect our diverse population, including children, elders, and people of color.

Eco-Tourism

To counteract previous policies that pushed Carnation toward bedroom community over-development, the focus must shift to welcome recreating visitors and drive revenue for the city such as agricultural and ecological tourism, as well as outdoor festivals and venues. Incentivizing businesses to protect the land makes conservation profitable.

We must increase park usage regardless of the weather or season. Living in the Pacific Northwest means that in order to take full advantage of the beauty around us, we should not limit our recreation activities to only go outside when the sun is shining. The more opportunities that our families, children, and seniors have to spend time in nature the better.”
